Rain, rain, go away!

My new pink raincoat!

Hi Everypawdy!

My momma has been a bad hooman and hasn’t been updating my bloggy like she should very often lately!  So I decided to take matters into my own paws today.

It is raining.  I don’t like the rain too much, it’s all wet and puddley.  I like playing in puddles but I don’t like the rain falling on my ears.  Momma got this thing called an “ummm-brella” out today.  I’ve never seen it before.  I barked at it and ran away.  It followed us out into the yard!  I did my business and ran back inside where that umbrella couldn’t get me.  Oh! My momma did get me my very own raincoat!  It’s a little short and my ears make it so the hood doesn’t fit right.  Nothing ever fits a corgi properly!  Maybe I should go into fashion designs and design some proper corgi clothes!  I’d need to hire a bunch of human minions slaves workers to make all my clothes since I don’t have thumbs and my hoomans would fail me I am sure.

My stoopid Romba “friend” ate my favorite leash the other day.  That is NOT what friends do!!!  Luckily da hoomans were able to rescue my leash.  The thingie that held my leashes fell and that’s how the roomba got my leash.  I was in my box at the time otherwise I’m sure I would have rescued it!  See, here is a picture:

Oh, today is Nicky’s 17th birthday!  Nick was my momma’s last gigantic beast horse.  She sold him a few years ago and bought Owen.  I don’t know what horses are yet but I guess my momma has one?  She says I will get to see him very soon.  Nicky was a handful but taught the momma a lot of things and made her a better rider.

This was at Fair in ’06 when they won the Showmanship Belt Buckle!!!

Kitchen Jail Guilt

Gwen has been stuck in kitchen jail for the past few days since both Andrew and I were working.  When he was working during the night and sleeping during the day it was easier but after one day of her staying in her crate the whole time I was gone (someone never woke up) we decided to rig kitchen jail for her so she would at least be able to move around a little.  To make up for having to put the Princess in jail I brought home some goodies for her. 🙂

After my shift I bought a braided bully, a Red Barn Fetchers Bully Stick Treat, and a bag of puppy cookies!  The bag of cookies were “oops” cookies, meaning that they are discounted for a quick sale either because they have damaged packaging but are otherwise fine OR they are nearing some sell by date or the store just wants to get rid of them (also think seasonal products).  In this case it was the sell by date.  I got an employee discount on the first two items (yay!) and then the bag of cookies was already discounted so I bought them separately.

Now, the whole reason I bought this stick chew thing was because of where it was made:  Paraguay!  I saw them when I was stocking shelves on Sunday and told myself I would have to buy one for Gwen.  You may be wondering why I would care about something made in Paraguay.  The reason behind that is, I was born there and you don’t ever really hear much about the tiny, landlocked country in South America let alone things that were made there.  I will tell you how Gwen likes it once I give it to her.

Gwen and her Bully Braid with creepy eyes

Gwen got her bully braid!  She didn’t want to share it and kept crawling away to different places to hide and chew on it.  It was hard to get a picture of her!  She likes bully sticks and this was her first braid.  I think the braid held up remarkably well compared to the plain stick variety!

I am enjoying working at Petco very  much!  It has given me the opportunity to learn something new, get out of the house, earn some moola to pay for my animal addiction habit lifestyle.  I also get to see many different people and their animals.  I am getting better at the different kinds of transactions and things that people ask for.  I think my favorite things to ring up are the fish, the second are the animal toys.  My least favorites are returns without receipts, and things that are oops/match price that need a manager.  Those just take a long time since you have to call a manager and they have to walk over and then punch in their override codes.  Oh, and don’t forget receiving big bills.  Gotta have a manager make sure they are real, ya know.

Yesterday, we had a Darius Rucker sighting, though I am not sure it was real.  I do know that he is from this area and often returns home but I have never seen him.  I did not see him yesterday but the lady that I was ringing up swore that he just walked out the door!  I was the only one at the registers at the time and I didn’t recall ringing up anyone looking like him.  I don’t know.  I will just chaulk it up to almost seeing someone famous! 🙂  The conversation between the lady and I went something like this:  She was like “That was Darius Rucker!” I said “where?” she said “He just walked out the door!”

Have you ever met anyone famous?  I know my parents have, being in the airline industry they have told me stories of different people flying on their planes when they were working.  The only famous person I have met was Clinton Anderson.  He is a world famous horse trainer and clinician from Australia that does Natural Horsemanship.  Oh, now that I think about it I suppose I have met Ken McNabb too, another famous horse trainer and clinician.  Now they may not mean much to you, but in the horse world they do. 🙂

At some point in there I got off topic.  I was trying to tell about the animals…anyways, I think ferrets are cool, I wanted one before until I found out they are stinky.  I always said that if I got a ferret I would name him Ferris, as in Ferris Buller.  Ferris the Ferret, has a certain ring to it, don’t you think?  Well, yesterday I sold a little ball pit for ferrets and then one of the other associates sold some other nifty ferret toy and I started talking to her about ferrets.  Turns out she has one!  So this morning I started reading about ferrets.  They are nifty little creatures!

Did you know they sell leashes for Iguanas?!

Gwen is not thrilled about the Roomba today and is hiding behind me.  Occasionally she comes out and licks my computer screen.

Doggy Wisdom:

Random Bits:

I found this on facebook and I really wanted to share it.  You may have to have Facebook or be logged in to see it but you do not have to be my friend since it came from a news page.  I just thought it was funny.  It IS dog related, you’ll see. 🙂

My last little piece of random is this:  Glaucus atlanticus.  I saw this on Pinterest first,  then looked it up and started to find pictures of it.  This has to be one of the prettiest creatures I have ever seen!  I know it isn’t dog related but some things are just too good or neat not to share!  Aren’t they pretty?  This creature is a type of sea slug that eats the poisonous Portuguese Man O’War jellyfish and stores the venom in its body to use as its on protection.  It is only about 3 cm big.  Some common names for this creature are sea swallow and blue dragon.

Gwen and the Roomba are getting along a little better now.  The Roomba started up and she ran right over to it barking, like it was misbehaving and making her mad by waking up.  Little miss Corgi decided to give that Roomba a piece of her mind!  After a barking spell she came and sat by us but kept her eyes and ears on that thing the whole time.  When the Roomba was all done and headed to its dock, Gwen made sure that it got there and didn’t try to take any detours.  Yup, that’s right, she herded it home.  And when it made its little “I’m home!” tune she started to bark at it.  I don’t mean a WOOF WOOF bark, I mean a BAROOROOROO! bark!

It is weird going to work on the weekend, especially since Andrew is working on the weekend too.  I have no clue what day it is without looking at my phone or the calendar!

Today was my first day of work.  It was interesting to say the very least. Never a dull moment.  I was SO tired by the end of the day!  I  work tomorrow too, maybe it will be a bit easier since it won’t be my first real day of work.  I learned how to clean all the rodent cages, fed and watered them, picked up a mouse that was injured, took care of the kitties (they’re rescue kitties), shadowed another associate as she helped people in fish and at the register.  I finished the rest of the computer training.  Then came the exciting stuff:  cash register.  I was up at the register watching for awhile until they could actually teach me the things.  People would ask me if I could ring them up and I had to tell them no since I was still in training and only in the observing stage.  It was SO busy today!  They had an adoption event and also a vet event too so there were tons of people and dogs coming in and out.  Towards the end I did get to ring people up and it was slightly nerve-racking since I had never done it before and I was afraid of messing up!  I messed up a few times, apologized to the customers for being slow and new and got it fixed.  Most everyone understood since they did realize that I was new (I didn’t even have the uniform shirt yet, got that this afternoon) and were patient.

Jobless No More!

I got a job!  Yay! 😀  I start tomorrow!  Going to be working part time at Petco.  I wonder if they give employee discounts?!  Because if they did that would be AWESOME!  I already keep them in business by buying lots of dog food, dog treats, dog toys, and fish things!  I’ve always wanted to work in a pet store of some sort so at least I have my foot in the door.  Training things happen first, like learning the cash register…

This reminds me of my trip to that Petco for my initial interview (that was my second one that I went to yesterday).  When I was waiting patiently for my interview I was watching the dogs being groomed through the window.  Guess what was up on the grooming table.  A Corgi of course!  It was up there to get its nails trimmed and it had such an ugly snarling face!  I couldn’t help but laugh.  Every time Gwen snarls at me it makes me laugh.

I was going to give Miss Stinky Gwen a bath today but that never happened since I decided to take a nap after going shopping — had to buy some black pants for my new job!  Shopping makes me tired, I am not a fan of it unless it involves something fun like Horse stuff, Dog stuff, or books.  I love bookstores! So Gwen will just have to be stinky for a little while longer. 😦

Gwen had a slightly better experience with the Roomba today.  She laid on the couch for part of the cleaning, watching it and growling “menacingly” at it.  Hopefully Gwen will figure out sometime soon that when the Roomba starts up that she just needs to go hide under the bed.  That is, until the Roomba comes and hunts her down, chasing her out from under the bed!

As a new Roomba owner I feel the need to watch it work and get mad at it when it isn’t cleaning the room I want.  Is this normal???

I saw this on one of the Corgi pages I follow on Facebook. It has to be the most adorable thing I have seen in a long time! So cute!!!

Puppy Got a Roomba

No, this is not us, this is what Roomba thinks the family dog SHOULD do when there is a Roomba present…from my experience, this is not how it goes. That dog OBVIOUSLY wants to get the heck outta dodge but there must be some awfully tasty treats involved keeping it in place while the evil Roomba approaches.

I think I have mentioned it before, but one of the blogs that I follow and really enjoy is Puppy on a Roomba.  Well, we just got a Roomba!  My parents and cousins each have one and basically swear by them (or their similar counterparts).  I’ve wanted one for a long time to help with the massive amounts of vacuuming I always seem to be doing with this little Welsh Beast that lives in my house.  Our Roomba was a Christmas present from my parents and we just now (yesterday) set it up!  It took us awhile since I wanted to clean the house first — I felt that getting behind on 3 days worth of vacuuming could be detrimental to our new little robot!  Then I went home for the weekend and then we just never got around to it until yesterday.

Gwen was NOT happy about this THING living in HER living room.  We charged it up and then set it free for a couple minutes last night at around 9 pm (not my idea, I might add!) and of course Gwyndolyn Rose was not a happy camper…

Sorry the video was so dark, I didn’t think it would turn out like that.  That was what she did to it last night.  She growled and barked a little.  This morning’s reaction has been quite a bit louder and a bit hyper-vigilant which consists of hiding behind or next to the humans and barking and vibrating since when she isn’t barking or breathing she is growling.  I put her in the bedroom and closed the door and she went under the bed and hid quietly.  That lasted until Andrew came back and opened the door so that the Roomba could clean the floor…it chased Gwen out from under the bed!

As I type this now the Roomba is once again back in the bedroom making its rounds and I assume eating as many dust and hairs as possible since I have not vacuumed back here as recently as I should have.  *Hangs head in shame*  It’s battery is getting low too so I wonder if it will even make it back to its little docking station or if I am going to have to carry it back to its “home.”  My parents’ Roomba gets stuck under furniture and will go until it just dies sometimes.  They have a big house and a large, shedding Black Lab.

I looked down at the Roomba that seemed to be stuck in a perpetual circle next to the bed and it had the Dock light on, meaning it was trying to go back to its home, but it was obviously a little lost.  So I stopped it and carried it to the hall and then hit Dock and watched it go find its home.  Gwen of course started barking at it when it came back into “her” living room.  I heard Andrew say “shut up dog or I am going to hold you next to that thing until you quit barking!”  That gave me an idea!  I got out the jar of Bil-Jacks (little soft treats that are great treats for training) and worked Gwen close to that new “thing” living behind the dining room table.  I made her walk forward a couple steps and sit or lay down and then gave her the treat.  We worked closer and closer to the Roomba until she was eating the treats around it and then on top of it!  At least she will go near it when it is off now.  I guess only time will tell if she quits barking at it randomly.

I was going to try to keep this post relatively short but it looks like that may not happen.  After not writing anything for a few days I have the urge to keep writing!  Don’t worry, this will be all about Gwen! 🙂

Yesterday (Sunday) we went to our favorite dog park, Sky Dogs, to make up for having left Gwen in her box for the afternoon so we could go to the range and shoot.  Gwen absolutely loves going to the dog park!  On our way in the gate we saw Romeo, the puppy that Andrew fell in love with and wanted to adopt a couple weeks ago.  Romeo has grown and is still very sweet.  Gwen went up to him to say hi.  Once inside Gwen found some other dogs to play with and Lo and Behold the was another CORGI there!!!! 😀  I had yet to see another Corgi at the dog park!  Her name was Sydney and she was cute.  Gwen’s Beagle friend, Tobias, was there again.  I guess the last time Andrew took Gwen to the park, Tobias and Gwen had a baying/barking match.

At Sky Dogs they have an agility course which you can take your dog through or just play with the different obstacles.  Gwen likes the balance beam thing.  I got a little video of her on it! 🙂

The little Welsh Beast that we share our house with ate $6 cash Saturday night.  The $6 that we were going to use to pay to get into the dog park!  (it costs humans $3 ea. to enter, dogs are free)  The other day she tore up a book that Andrew got for Christmas.  Spiteful little you-know-what.

When I got up this morning, I came out to the living room to take Gwen outside and I found her sleeping in the middle of the floor.  Apparently we forgot to lock her crate door last night.  I don’t think we even closed her door because it was open and behind her water dish, meaning she couldn’t put it there.  I don’t know how we did that.  My guess is that she was in her crate when we turned out the lights and went to bed.  I checked to see if she destroyed anything and it didn’t look like it.  She was a good puppy!  Though she will still be sleeping in her crate, I don’t want to push the limits with the little devil!

Right now on Modern Marvels they are doing Dogs!  Gwen is watching it. 🙂  I haven’t seen a Corgi on it yet.  Every time a wolf howls or someone whistles or a dog barks she looks!  It’s cute since she never pays attention to the TV even when dogs are barking on it!
